Kilifi Kenya
Kilifi beach is a small pretty
town sandwitched between Mombasa and Malindi towns,
Kilifi is home to the local communities who have
snatched up the land alongside the lovely creek.
For many years the only means
of crossing the creek was by ferry, but a bridge was
recently built, which is not as much fun, but more
practical. Not that many people stop in Kilifi, but it is
worth breaking your journey to look at the Mnarani Ruins and
enjoy the beach
Soft white sandy beach at
Kilifi is a haven for sun worshipers and stretches for
miles. It is protected by a magnificent coral reef, unspoilt
and practically deserted; being well away from the crowd.
The ruins of the Swahili settlement of Mnarani are located
on the south bank of the Kilifi Creek. Among the ruins are a
magnificent Pillar Tomb, the remains of a large Friday (or
congregational) Mosque, and several tombs dating to the 15th
century.
Fresh produce arrives daily from Kilifi farms and delicious
seafood is supplied by local fisherman regardless of where
you stay.
With breathtaking surroundings
and recreational facilities and activities for every taste,
Kilifi beach truly is a little treasure piece.
