Kitani bandas Tsavo
With over 21,000 sq kms of vast bush land Tsavo West is by far the
largest National Park in Kenya.
The western part of the park is home of
the Kitani bandas consists of 8 self catering bandas and the
John Wayne Restaurant. It is set amongst the volcanic landscape and with
the fresh waters of the Mzima and Kitani springs; the area is rich in
wildlife.
Kitani bandas Tsavo are probably the first solid structures in Tsavo
West as it was originally built in 1954. It is now affiliated to the
nearby Severin Safari Camp where you can have meals if you are not keen
on self cattering
The added attractions of the historical Poachers Lookout and a stunning
view of the El Turesh Valley, Roaring Rocks and Tsavo River, make a
visit to this area of the park a must.
At Kitani Tsavo Bandas, each cottage can accommodate a maximum of 4 people and have private bathroom
facilities with WC, toilet and showers. The beds all have mosquito nets.
There is running hot and cold water and power is generated from the
nearby generator.
The bandas are located
in the Tsavo West National Park, just 49 kms from the Mtito Andei gate,
5 kms from Mzima Springs and 2 kms from the Poachers Lookout. On a clear
day, the Bandas have a majestic view of Mt Kilimanjaro.

A few
kilometres from the Tsavo River, the Bandas are uniquely
positioned in an area rich in game. Other points of interest
like the huge lave fields, the roaring rocks, Mzima Springs, the
Rhino Sanctuary and Mt Kilimanjaro, make a visit to this area a
must.
All the eight
self catering Bandas have running water, en suite bathrooms with
showers/WC. Each banda is furnished with 2 beds with mosquito
nets. Linen and towels are provided. |
A maximum of 2 extra
beds can be provided per banda. Fresh water and power by generator.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a two burner stove and kitchen
utensils. But should visitors prefer to ‘eat out’ it is possible to
visit the John Wayne snack bar or the Severin Safari Camp,
approximately, 800 metres away.
Getting there by private or hired road transport, private charter or
plane to Kilaguni airstrip – a good stopover to or from the coast.
National Park fees are payable and entry is by ‘smartcard’.
Activities Game drives, bird watching, relaxation.
Optional Extras Accommodation for drivers and ayahs available on
request. Dining at Severin Safari camp nearby.
Each self catering Banda has a private view of the park and Mt.
Kilimanjaro. |
