Rutundu Log Cabins
Situated
on the slopes of Mount Kenya at 10,0200 feet or 3000 meters above sea
level, Rutundu log cabins are just above the forest line. Total privacy
is guaranteed, the cabins are positioned overlooking Lake Rutundu and
surrounded by alpine moorland, a home for unique bird life and
vegetation.
Rutundu log cabins are on a self-catering basis. Meaning that you will
bring all your own food and drinks. We recommend that you bring soups
and stews since they are great for evenings in case you do not manage to
catch a fish. Fruits, cereals and eggs and bacon for breakfast, and cold
meats, cheeses, breads and salads are ideal for lunches. The staff will
help you in the kitchen and also do some cooking and cleaning if you
want.
Rutundu cabins are not only a nature lover’s paradise, but also an
perfect place for fishermen and hikers. Lake Rutundu and Lake Alice are
a 2 hour walk up the mountain and provide excellent opportunities
for fishing. The average catch is two to three Ibis, with larger fish
reaching up to six Ibi
A
boat is provided and there are 3 casting platforms. Previous experience
in fly-fishing is not necessary.
Beautiful walks around Lake Alice is a must do and through Giant
Groundsel and Heather forests. In contrast to this moorland terrain,
the Cedar and Podo forest, a half hour drive below Rutundu, provides
lovely walks and picnic sites. Nearby is the Kizita River Gorge a
crystal clear river, with small brown trout to catch.
Accommodation is in two log cabins with open log fires, en suite
bathrooms and flush toilet. One room is attached to the sitting and
dining area, veranda and kitchen. The other is detached from the main
building. Rutundu log cabins can accommodate four people comfortably
but another four beds are available providing that sharing rooms is
okay.
