Sangare Tented camp

The camp is located in a 6,500 Acre private ranch in the northern foothills of the Aberdare Mountains in Central Kenya.

Sangare tented camp is situated in the Aberdares most exquisite settings, overlooks a magnificent fresh water lake against the backdrop of Sangare hill.

The spectacular views across the vast savannah make Sangare one of the richest private wildlife sanctuaries.

The terrain hosts elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, leopards, warthogs amongst many others.

Overlooking a magnificent lake against the backdrop of Sangare hill, stand out our 12 brand new luxurious tents. Sangare tented camp tents are spacious, providing utmost comfort and relaxation and tastefully furnished with 4 Poster beds and African rustic furniture.

All tents have a private romantic veranda with a cosy lounge overlooking the stunning natural lake, ‘Sangare’.

 

Every tent has a modern en suite bathroom with flush toilet and shower. When opened, each tent is specially designed to give you the most breathtaking view of the early morning sunrise against the lake.

Sangare tents are either twin with two queen size beds or double with a 4 Poster King Size bed.

The spectacular honeymoon suites are nestled amongst the bush, each having a unique view of the surroundings and wildlife. Honeymooners are usually surprised with bubbly, chocolate coated strawberries, natural grown organic fruits from our garden amongst other goodies.

There is nothing more romantic than a candle lit dinner in the privacy of your veranda enjoying the spectacular sunset against the lake.

Enjoy a superb game drive in our wild vast plains as you admire the different species of animals, including giraffes, elephants, leopards, zebras, buffalos, antelopes, zebroids amongst others. The ultimate African experience is enjoying a night game drive watching the entire galaxy, identifying stars and spotting the nocturnal animals.

A game drive in the Aberdare Park is an ideal way to spend an afternoon. A short drive away, the Aberdare Park offers lovely Afro Alpine Moorlands. Hopefully you will see elephants, rhinos, buffalos and other plains in this park. Visiting the famous Queen Elizabeth picnic site is a popular outdoor.

You also cannot afford to miss the precious white rhino during your game drive in the beautiful vast savannah of the Solio game reserve. Other notable species include cheetahs, black rhino, giraffes, and elephants amongst many others.

With lamps tied to your head, a 45 minute night game walk after dinner is a lovely idea. You cannot go to bed without having seen the leopard!!

Horse ridding along the magnificent lake across the vast forest while enjoying the humming tunes of our many beautiful species of birds is the most popular of all.

For the energetic riding bikes on the wonderful terrain as you watch the animals walk by. You can also travel long distances, at your own pace in a completely natural environment. There are few better ways to see the bush!

Spend a leisurely afternoon drifting along the lake in our inflatable canoes in the most peaceful and tranquil environment. Sangare tented camp is home to over 300 species of African as well as migratory birds. Enjoy a walk through the variety of birds with our qualified naturalist with lectures on the Surrounding areas.

Trek through our vast plains, savannahs, forests as you marvel the various species of animals, birds, plants as you uncover our famous Sangare Hill.

Take your gear and let’s see how good you are in catching the famous ‘Rainbow trout’. Imagine the live BBQ tantalizing feast afterwards.

‘Mountain Peak’ Breakfast
After having climbed the mountain and enjoyed the amazing views of the Aberdares Valley, a spectacular sunrise awaits you as you enjoy a delicious breakfast.

Bush lunch
Enjoy a delicious ‘gourmet’ lunch overlooking magnificent plains and savannahs while you watch the most elegant giraffes and zebras passing nearby.

Sundowners
Unwind in the evening with a refreshing sundowners on open plains where you watch the changing colours  of the African sky as the dust settles and the air cools.

BBQ Dinner at the famous Mau Mau caves
Enjoy the sounds of the African night and the hospitality of our experienced chefs as they prepare a sumptuous live BBQ for you in the midst of the historic Mau Mau caves. This will make your evening truly memorable.

Traditional Dances
What a better way to end the day than watching local traditional dances and drummers entertaining you around the bonfire while you sip away your favorite drink.

Flower Farm Visit
Visit our nearby flower farm ‘Mweiga Blooms’ where you will be taken on a guided tour to see the process of flower farming of hundreds of different species of roses.
We will bid you farewell with a gift of a ‘bouquet’ of roses.

Tea Farm Visit
Look forward to an Agricultural visit to our tea farm where our experts will guide you through the entire tea making process. Wind up sipping your tea while enjoying home made cookies

The main lounge and dining area consists of a high thatch roof, the ridge-lines of which emulate Mount Sangare, over which it looks.

Drinks and snacks are available in our lounge throughout the day.

After a long eventful day, what better way to unwind than to take a few drinks by our ‘bone fire’.

Meals can be enjoyed in the main dinning room by the fireplace or at the terrace overlooking the beautiful lake

All meals are made from pure organic vegetables and fruits grown in our garden.
Our chefs take great price in the food served. All breads, pastries and pies are home made. Sangare camp caters for a wide range of tastes including vegetarian specialties.

Sangare tented camp is located 180 km north of Nairobi, 20 km from Nyeri town and 40 km from Nanyuki

By Air:
Nairobi-Nanyuki airstrip-Sangare – 40 minutes
Nairobi-Mweiga airstrip-Sangare – 30 minutes

Via Road:
Saloon car up to Green Hills Hotel in Nyeri – 160 Km – 2 ½ hrs
Transfer to Sangare tented camp with 4x4 wheel drive – 20 Km – ½ hr

OR
Directly to Sangare tented camp with a 4x4 wheel drive – 180 Km – 3 hrs

Climate:
The weather is moderately hot most of the year

Temperature:
The average temperatures are 28 C during the day and 18 C during the night

Recommended attire:
The camp site is informal. Comfortable clothes are recommended, e.g. casual wear, hats and sweaters for the evening. Trainers are the most ideal footwear.

Recommended equipment:
Cameras, extra films, binoculars, sun protection (sun glasses, hats, sun creams)

Convenient shop:
Stocked with cigarettes, tampons, batteries, toothbrushes, toothpaste, phone cards, tablets, curious etc.
